Cover Reveal

Cover Reveal & Big IE News

You  know how every now and again, there’s a book cover that stops you in your tracks and you have to take a moment to appreciate all the subtleties and nuances of the image? The little details that would have been so easy to leave out, but the cover artist knew what a difference it would make if they slipped them in.

That’s what Ravven has done for me with Shadows in the Garden Hotel. With a brief description of the character and story, she has pegged Allegra Rossi’s character so solidly that I can’t picture her any other way.

So, of course, I don’t want to keep her a secret any longer. Please meet the latest addition of The Invisible Entente.

Once you’re ready, feel free to check out the blurb for the story that’s coming your way on April 18th:

All Allegra Rossi needs is her beauty, expensive champagne, designer clothes, and enough souls to keep her succubus appetites satisfied.

Everything seems to be in place until a photo shoot at New Haven’s prestigious — and supposedly haunted — Garden Hotel sets her dreams for a perfect life crumbling. Not only has her handsome, charismatic boss captured her interest, threatening the careful restraints she’s placed around her succubus nature, but the hotel’s reputation turns out to be true. Worse: the specter has targeted Allegra as its next victim

If Allegra wants to stay alive and keep her heart intact, she will have to unleash her demonic instincts to shed light into the darkness before the shadows consume her.

What I thought would be my most challenging story of the series has easily become my favourite, and I look forward to sharing it with you.

Even better, I look forward to sharing it with all of you, even if you’re not a Kindle user.

That’s right. As of today, The Invisible Entente series will be leaving the Kindle Select program and migrating to other distributors, including iBooks, Nook, and Kobo, as well as Amazon. I wanted to give it a solid effort, but the fact of the matter is I hate excluding people.

COVER REVEAL: Dawn of the Vie by Laura Diamond

I’ve followed Laura’s writing career with interest for years, and I’m over the moon to see her recent comeback into the publishing arena. A beautiful storyteller with a sharp wit, killer imagination, and the more adorable cats, she’s definitely an author to follow.

Today, I’m happy to help promote her cover reveal for Dawn of the Vie! So pretty!!

Dawn of the Vie
Laura Diamond
(Immortal Aliens, #1)
Published by: Curiosity Quills Press
Publication date: October 3rd 2016
Genres: Dystopian, Science Fiction, Young Adult

Since their Arrival less than 30 years ago, immortal Vie rule the planet like the super-predators they are. Enslaved humans are their servants…their entertainment…and their food. Anemies—humans with various types of anemia—are simply exterminated. Their nutritionally deficient blood is useless to the Vie.

Or so it’s thought…

_________

Alex, an Elite Vie, is a bit of a Renaissance Alien. Part scientist, part Raid Specialist, part drug addict, he knows Anemie blood is valuable. Rather than blindly carrying out his boss’s kill order, he convinces some colleagues to spare a few Anemies, not only for study, but also to reserve a secret stock.

The more Anemie blood Alex drinks, the more he slips into delusion, and the more his double life threatens to crumble. But quitting Anemie blood is not an option. Every Anemie has their own personal flavor. Each gives a unique high.

When Alex takes a hit of Justin’s blood, his hallucinations bleed into reality…

_________

Anemie Justin knows his little sister, Sammie, and he are living past their expiration dates. It becomes a guarantee when they’re bitten by a Vie named Alex during a raid. (The bite is fatal, thanks to a toxin carried in Vie saliva.) Alex adds insult to injury by promising Justin a second chance—an antidote in exchange for agreeing to be a lab rat.

And a mule…of his own blood.

When Justin says no, Alex takes off with Sammie.

All Justin has to do is find them, beat Alex, and cure himself and Sammie. All he has is a stake and serious lack of self-preservation.

No problem.

_________

Alex wants Justin’s blood.

Justin wants his sister back.

GAME ON.

Project Unveiling and Cover Reveal!

Lots of big changes happening around here this week, and today you get a first look at the results!

I’ve decided to create a new website – no longer just a blog, but an actual site for people to find information about my books. Not that The Raven’s Quill is going anywhere. I’m going to keep running this blog for the Andvell A-Z series, writing process posts, and author interviews. A few pages – like my works in progress, and excerpts – will disappear from here, but still be found at (drumroll please): www.kristawalshauthor.com

It’s still pretty basic right now, but more content will be added as the weeks go on. Considering I’m a borderline technophobe, and the fact that Venn would have been proud of me for the words coming out of my mouth at certain steps, I’m proud of it!

Need more incentive to go check it out? The Blightlore cover reveal is happening there TODAY in all of its stunning glory. You’ll  also see that I’m offering a free e-copy of “A Step Too Far”, a short story that takes place between Evensong and Eventide for those of you who haven’t had a chance to download it yet. So as much as I hope you’ll still join me over here, I’m looking forward to connecting with you all in my new space!

BLOODLORE Cover Reveal

Today’s the day – the COVER REVEAL. It’s the day that makes the whole process real … and gives the stress a good boost as it sinks in that I only have a month to get this book into the best possible condition for you guys.

I’m sure many of you know the history of Bloodlore, but in case this is your first time here, I’ll give you a quick rundown. The Cadis Trilogy is a follow up to my now best-selling Meratis Trilogy. Venn Connell was introduced as a secondary character in book 2, Eventide, and, before many pages had passed, hijacked the story, quickly becoming a popular favourite. She bullied her way into my head and convinced me her story was only getting started in Meratis.

Venn has been ragging me for weeks not only to get Bloodlore polished and released, but also to get Blightlore drafted. I’ve tried explaining to her that I can only do so much in a week, but she called me weak, and a slacker. As yet she hasn’t gone as far as threatening to stab me, but she has provoked me enough to throw this together:

Venn

But now that I’ve mollified her ego a little bit, I can get to the real reveal. The release date for Bloodlore is slotted for the week of May 25, 2015, and I hope to have a pre-order link available soon!

The beautiful artwork was done by the uber talented Jeff Brown, with the familiar typography by Colin F. Barnes.

Cover

Venn Connell is bored.

When the Andvellian ambassador in Margolin goes missing, she jumps at the chance to find him, but quickly learns the mystery goes deeper than one missing courtier.

With border tensions rising, a man vanishing before her eyes with a relic she believed lost, red-clad soldiers out for blood, and something dark following her from the charred ruins of Treevale fortress, Venn becomes a pawn in an unseen game.

Forced to confront her past and question her future, Venn knows she has to tread carefully. One wrong move and she could lose herself in the shadows, and hurl her country into war.

Isn’t is beautiful? Can’t wait to see what Jeff comes up with for 2 & 3! *dances*

Sale Numbers and Cover Reveal Preview

As I mentioned in my last post, I had my first experience with a BookBub ad on April 5, 2015, and would post some results for people who are interested. I’ll start with that, and then move on to the other exciting news, which is that Bloodlore is getting its cover reveal on Monday!

So. BookBub. I’d heard varying things about how worthwhile this most prestigious of book ads might be. Fantasy is a saturated market, everyone using their dragons to compete and their magic to tear down their enemies, so I didn’t have terribly high expectations for the day.

I’m sure you’ve all heard by now that my first novel, Evensong, is free for your ereader (if not, where’ve you been?), and as I mentioned in my last post, I reduced Eventide to 99c for the day. The ad kicked in around 10am EST, and by 2pm, I was already in the 5-digit range, with sales on books 2 & 3 moving along at a nice pace. At its peak, Evensong hit #1 in a few categories, including Free Kindle Fantasy. It hit #5 in the entire Free Kindle Store. Eventide reached #1 in a few sub-categories, and for the first time in my publishing career, I got one of those lovely yellow “#1 Amazon Best-seller” stamps.

I’m sure it goes without saying – that was a really great day. Am I satisfied with the results? Oh, absolutely. Since the initial drop over the first couple of days, the numbers have stayed steady, giving me the hope that I didn’t choose the wrong career path after all. I realise the results will change depending on a trillion different factors, and this is just one person’s experience, but if you’ve been on the fence about whether or not to apply for your ad space, I hope I’ve been of some help!

Now onto the other, more exciting, newses.

Bloodlore has a cover! It actually got a cover over a month ago, and it has been incredibly difficult for me to sit on it as long as I have. But the release date is coming up in about a month’s time, and I feel my patience should be rewarded.

Preview2

Be sure to check back on Monday, April 27 for the full cover and blurb, and if you’re interested in helping me spread the word on your own blog sites, please send me a message at theravens (dot) quill (at) gmail (dot) com, or leave a comment below!

All the excitement and the moving forward and glee!

Welcome to Darmid, where magic is a sin, fairy tales are contraband, and the people live in fear of the Sorcerers on the other side of the mountains.

Rowan Greenwood has everything she’s supposed to want from life— a good family, a bright future, and a proposal from a handsome and wealthy magic hunter. She knows she should be content with what she has. If only she could banish the idea that there’s more to life than marriage and children, or let go of the fascination with magic she’s been forced to suppress since childhood.

When Rowan unknowingly saves the life of one of her people’s most feared enemies, a simple act of compassion rips her from her sheltered life and throws her into a world of magic that’s more beautiful, more seductive, and more dangerous than she ever could have imagined.

Now Rowan might just get everything she ever dreamed of— that is, if the one thing she’s always wanted doesn’t kill her, first.

Kate Sparkes was born in Hamilton, Ontario, but now resides in Newfoundland, where she tries not to talk too much about the dragons she sees in the fog. She lives with a Mountie, two kids who take turns playing Jeckyll and Hyde, three cats with more personality than most people she meets, and the saddest-looking dog on the planet. Cover Reveal: EMERGENCE

I swear I remember I have a blog! Life has caught me up in its grip once again and with Evensong enjoying a nice spreading of word, I haven’t had much to say.

Now, however, I would like to offer an enormous thank you to all of you who have purchased, read, reviewed, and otherwise helped me promote Evensong. As much as I write for myself, most of the joy comes from other people reading it, so hopefully that joy is going both ways!

But today’s point is not for me to gush about my gratitude to you – it’s to direct your attention to the exciting news of one of my fellow authors and good friends. I’ve had her on my blog before, and she has hosted me more times than I can count. She even allowed me to adopt (e.g. happily gave up once he followed me home) my flying monkey, Joe. Her first novel First of her Kind swept me away, and the sequel gripped my heart and kept me riveted until I forgot what day of the week it was and may have missed a few hours of work.

Ladies and Gents, I would like to offer the cover for book two K.L. Schwengel’s  “Darkness and Light” series: EMERGENCE

coverreveal

The battle for Ciara’s power has drawn the full attention of the Emperor and the Imperial Mages, forcing Bolin to put duty above safety and take her to Nisair. It won’t be an easy trip, even with an Imperial escort and a Galysian elder accompanying them. Especially since Donovan has found himself some new allies, one of who wields a dark magic that has literally gotten under Bolin’s skin.

For Ciara, coming to terms with the increasingly tangible manifestation of her power could destroy her. Even if they make it to Nisair–something that grows more unlikely by the day–there is no surety of safety for Ciara, or any of them. Not with Donovan willing to gamble everything to achieve his goals, or Bolin’s uncharacteristically reckless behavior, the result of which is the attention of something that has everyone worried.

Loyalties will be tested, lives will be lost, and no one will emerge unchanged as they find things are not always so clear on the line dividing Darkness and Light.

The planned release date for EMERGENCE is March 17, 2014

About the author:

mequinnK. L. Schwengel lives in southeast Wisconsin on a small farm with her husband, a handful of Australian Shepherds, Her Royal Highness Princess Fiona the Cat, and assorted livestock. Growing up as the youngest of nine children, and the daughter of a librarian, Kathi spent many hours between stacks of books, and secluded away in dusty archives, drawn to tales of medieval heroes and conquering knights. With so many characters and ideas spinning in her head, she had to get them onto paper or risk what little sanity she possessed. She has been penning wild tales of magic and mayhem as long as she can remember, but opted to follow her artistic muse first. After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts and spending many years working as a freelance artist, grocery clerk, art teacher, graphic designer, stable hand, advertising account coordinator, dog trainer, and process technician (among other things) she answered the call of her writing muse. When not writing, Kathi trains and trials working Australian Shepherds, still paints, dabbles in photography, graphic design, and anything else creative her assorted muses send her way.

Kathi’s work is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords, and other on-line retailers in both paperback and e-book versions. Signed copies are available via her blog.
