I’m stepping away from my usual writer fodder to send a message to someone who seems to need a bit of boost. My talent is words, so the least I can do is put them to good use to try and help someone feel better about himself.
When we work to master a craft, it’s easy to get bogged down with insecurities. No matter how good we get, it’s easy not to see it – to believe we’re no better than children stumbling over the alphabet. No matter how far we climb, we’ll always been surrounded by people who are better, who think our contribution isn’t good enough, or who want to put us down just for the fun of it. It’s easy to start thinking that we’re not good enough and that we can’t compare. But it’s a lie.
Your work has never disappointed me. Even if the project wasn’t stellar, you stood out from the crowd and turned it into something worth enjoying. You clearly love the important aspects of what you do, and it’s a dedication that comes out to anyone open enough to notice. You are talented and skilled and, while I don’t want it to go to your head, I think you’re pretty amazing.
So when things get rough, please remember: Chin up and keep breathing – you’re doing a great job.
